Sabine Lisicki shocked the tennis world on Monday by defeating Serena Williams in the fourth round of the 2013 Wimbledon Championships. After upsetting the defending Wimbledon champion 6-2, 1-6, 6-4, Lisicki advanced to the quarterfinals. As her name propels into the spotlight, here are five facts about Lisicki.

1. Lisicki, 23, is from Troisdorf, Germany. She's won three WTA titles in her career since turning pro in 2006, according to the WTA website. Before her win on Monday, Lisicki was 20-12 this year and 222-145 overall. The furthest she ever went at Wimbledon was the semifinals in 2011. Lisicki is ranked No. 24 in the World, and she resides in Bradenton, Fla.

2. The German is right-handed and has a two-handed backhand. TennisEarth described Lisicki as packing "immense power in ground-strokes and can surprise opponents with venom in her strokes. Another exceedingly underrated aspect of her game is her serve, when on song, Lisicki's serves are like cannon balls being launched from just 24 meters."

Her powerful, crushing serves earned her the nickname "Boom Boom," according to Vogue.

3. Williams was the overwhelming favorite to win on Monday. She'd been dominant all season and had been playing some of the best tennis of her career.  Entering the fourth round of Wimbledon, only three women remained that had ever beaten the World No. 1 -- Marion Bartol, Li Na and Sloane Stephens each beat her once. Williams had been the heavy favorite to win Wimbledon; she has 16 Grand Slam championships, including five Wimbledon titles.

Lisicki and Williams had met twice before. In those two meetings, Lisicki never won a set.

4. Her win on Monday is the fourth time she has dethroned the reigning French Open champion at Wimbledon: Svetlana Kuznetsova in 2009, Li Na in 2011, Maria Sharapova in 2012 and now Williams in 2013.  She missed 2010 because of an injury, according to ESPN.

5. Lisicki advances her to the quarterfinals.  Her opponent and match-time are TBA.  After the match, she gave an emotional interview.
