Reuters is reporting that Rovio games chief Jami Laes has left the company after nearly two years overseeing its wildly popular mobile game franchises such as "Angry Birds" and "Bad Piggies."

It's further evidence that the Finnish games company is struggling; late last year Rovio CEO Mikael Hed confirmed "painful" plans to lay off up to 16 percent of staff because the company had "been building our team on assumptions of faster growth than have materialized."

During those layoffs Rovio closed its Tampere office completely, and Hed later stepped down as CEO in December.

Laes offered no explanation for his departure, but stated that he intends to launch his own venture in the near future....as most of these guys do when they leave big positions and companies.
