Less than 24 hours after former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez was arraigned on murder charges, he is now is under investigation for a 2012 double murder in Boston, FOX Boston reports.

In a whirlwind day on Wednesday, Hernandez was arrested, released by the Patriots, arraigned on six charges and held without bail.  Authorities arrested the 23-year-old at his North Attleborough, Mass., home just before 9 a.m. on Wednesday.  The Patriots cut ties with Hernandez shortly after.  He was arraigned later in the afternoon and charged with murder, unlawful possession of a firearm and four other gun-related offenses.

Hernandez pleaded not guilty.

Despite his lawyer calling the evidence circumstantial and contending his client wasn't a flight-risk, the judge held Hernandez without bail.

Now Hernandez is reportedly under investigation for a double homicide, too.  Fox Boston reported on Thursday that investigators are looking at Hernandez as a possible suspect in a double murder from July 16, 2012 in downtown Boston.

Fox Boston reports:

"According to the Boston Police blog from that date, officers responded to the intersection of Shawmut Avenue and Herald Street just after 2 a.m.  When they arrived, they found three people had been shot, two fatally, as they sat in a car at a traffic light.

"The men were identified as Safiro Furtado and Daniel Abreu.  The FOX 25 source said the men, who worked at a cleaning company in Dorchester, had just left a bar in the area.

"Furtado and Abreu were sitting in the front seat of the vehicle when witnesses said the occupants of a gray or silver SUV with Rhode Island plates opened fire on it.  The surviving victim was in the back seat.  Investigators believed two others in the car fled the scene."

Law enforcement is examining whether Hernandez is connected.  The investigation is ongoing.

Hernandez is also being sued for allegedly shooting a former friend in the face.  The incident is said to have happened in February.

The former New England tight end is charged with the murder of Odin Lloyd, a semi-pro football player and acquaintance.  Prosecutors, citing surveillance videos and text messages, claim Hernandez "drove the victim to that remote spot, and then he orchestrated the execution" of Lloyd.

He faces life in prison, if convicted.
