Gematsu has confirmed "Dragon's Dogma Online," a free-to-play/MMO-lite version of Capcom's popular RPG, for Windows PC, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4.

It will have a brand new setting, but the core combat remains very much the "Dragon's Dogma" you know and love. This time around, you will have parties of up to four players, with AI pawns. You will also be able to chat and find party members in lobbies that can accommodate 100 people.

Of course, as is the case with most MMOs, everything comes in a larger scale. Updates will be big, and the world will get considerably bigger with each seasonal update. By the time the updates are done, the world will be three times as big. There will also be timed events, and raid-like events where you can have eight-player parties. When facing larger creatures, their attacks get stronger as you make them angrier, etc.

One change from previous games is a broader character creation system. You will have your pick of any job you like, including fighter, hunter, priest, shield sage and others.

As it is described here, the game falls somewhat short of being a full-fledged MMO, but it clearly has been designed to cater to the MMO audience. Capcom producer Yoshinori Ono said that the game is "coming along" and development is benefiting from the MMO experience and cooperation of Sony Computer Entertainment.

Stay tuned for more on "Dragon's Dogma Online" as it develops.
