A Texas teenager has been taken into custody after a 3-month-old baby was found drowned to death in a home early Monday morning, WFAA reported.

The unidentified female infant was found dead in an undisclosed location inside the Dallas apartment after police arrived in response to a "person in danger," Dallas Sergeant Warren Mitchell said. An official cause of death is pending an autopsy but police believe the girl was drowned.

"It's tough, I mean, it breaks my heart any time, you know, you respond to a call and someone so innocent...there's no one more than a child," Mitchell told the station. "My heart goes out to the family."

Dallas police believe a 14-year-old girl, also unidentified, was present inside the Westmoreland Road apartment during the incident and took her into custody. She is the daughter of a family friend who was taking care of the child while the baby's mother is in prison.

Another teenager who was also present at the home is being questioned as a possible witness, Mitchell told WFAA. She is not considered a suspect in the infant's death.

No arrests have been made as of Monday afternoon.
