Orange Music Education, a division of Orange Amplifiers, has created Musicboard, an interactive music theory educational tool.

An electronic white board that comes to life with the touch of a wand, the Musicboard is designed to teach music students the basics in a fun way.

The Musicboard can be used in group classes or on an individual basis and is aimed at students learning a musical instrument or curriculum-based music. It is the first fully interactive Musicboard dedicated to music theory, the company says.

Music theory is the most challenging aspect of music education for teachers as theory knowledge is not remembered by students as much as the instrumental side of music.

Instrumental learning is kinesthetic and it is this approach to theory that led to the creation of the Musicboard. Board pens and cordless 'magic' wands are used by both the teacher and the students to create notes and learn how they sound.

This has proven far more productive in helping a student retain pitch and rhythm recognition over methods that just allow them to write music electronically and have it played back to them, the company says.

The wall-mounted, height-adjustable board features a 61-note polyphonic weighted keyboard so hand positions and note pitches can be demonstrated to a whole class.

Orange Amplifiers is based in the UK with U.S. headquarters in Atlanta. To see the board in action, take a look at the Orange Music Education video here.

The Musicboard is one of several noted innovations in technology and music introduced at the National Association of Music Merchants Show in Anaheim, California. The show started Thursday and runs through Sunday.
