A customer at a Mississippi Lowe's home improvement store was bitten by a snake on Saturday after it leaped out from inside a cabinet, WTVA reported.

The unnamed customer opened the cabinet at the Corinth-based Lowe's when the chicken snake jumped out and bit the victim on the head, Corinth Police Chief Ralph Dance told the station.

Staff at Magnolia Regional Health Center treated the wounded customer, whose condition was not immediately available.

It's not yet clear how the nonvenomous snake, also known as a black rat snake, ended up in the cabinet. Lowe's spokeswoman Amanda Manna confirmed the incident to The Clarion-Ledger, but could not offer comment.

"All I can share is that we're currently investigating the incident," Manna said.
