A New York woman said she was stunned to come home and discover that her husband had allegedly torn down their house while she was out of town, ABC News reported.

Diane Andryshak of Middletown, N.Y., said she returned expecting to see her suburban home, but was instead greeted with an empty lot where she once lived with her husband for nine years.

"None of my belongings were taken out. Everything was in the house. I'm in shock, still I'm in shock," she said.

The home spanned 840-square feet with one bathroom and three bedrooms. It was sold in Dec. 2005 for $160,000.

"I don't know what happened. I don't know anything. I know that when I got here he was already down at the police station. We were not fighting, we were not arguing," Andryshak said.

James Rhein, the woman's husband, is said to have rented an excavator without a permit and tore the home to the ground on Monday morning. He was released after paying $300 bail on a criminal mischief charge.

He said the home had been in shambles for years and finally decided to take matters into his own hands, the Daily Mail reported. No one was injured in the demolition, but police said Rhein may face additional charges.

Rhein said his wife was upset at first, but has moved on.

"But now she's over it," Rhein said. "We're good. I'm a good husband, what can I tell you?"
