One of the smartphone enigmas of 2014 was a newly developed device known as the OnePlusOne. This phone received a large number of positive reviews from journalists and analysts. However, the phone was difficult to find or buy in the U.S. Thankfully, the enigmatic phone's maker OnePlus is looking to offer users a chance to buy the phone without restriction.

The Chinese phone maker, OnePlus, described  its OnePlusOne as the "flagship killer," implying that it would take on the big phone models, such as the Nexus 5 and the iPhone 6. And frankly, it could have been just that. When Engadget reviewed the device, it said, "Not only does it look and feel like a premium device, but it also comes with specs similar to what you'd find in a flagship smartphone."

However, OnePlus said phone production was limited by the model's "low price point." Anyone who wanted the phone had to receive one of a limited number of invites in order to buy it. This also created a stronger demand in the Android community for the OnePlusOne.

This commerce model has worked surprisingly well for the OnePlusOne. TheOnePlusOne sold more than 500,000 units in its first year, a notable amount for a new phone startup.

However, OnePlusOne wants to offer a new option. If customers in North America visit oneplus.net tonight (Jan. 20) between 7 and 9 p.m. EST, they'll be able to  purchase a OnePlusOne without an invite.

So, if you're in the market for a smartphone, this could provide you with a high-quality device for a reasonable cost.
