NBC and Dolly Parton have signed a development deal for a new series of TV movies inspired by her songs, stories and life.

NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt announced Parton will serve as producer for the two-hour movies geared toward a family audience. She also may make an appearance in the TV movies.

"I don't know anyone in the world who doesn't love Dolly Parton, and the idea of developing television movies inspired by her incredible life and the stories she has sung about for decades is exciting to all of us at NBC," Greenblatt said in a statement. "I hope we will create some uplifting movies that the entire family can enjoy together, a genre of programming that still seems largely untapped on television."

The country star's producing partner Sam Haskell of Magnolia Hill Entertainment will help develop the movies. The two also worked with Greenblatt to produce "9 to 5: The Musical," the Broadway adaptation of her 1980 film, "Nine to Five."

Parton has won 10 Grammy Awards, 10 Country Music Association Awards and seven Academy of Country Music Awards during her 40-year career. She has earned 46 Grammy nominations total, tied only with Beyoncé as the most-Grammy nominated woman of all time. She also holds the record for artist with the most Top 10 albums on the country charts (41) and 25 have gone gold, platinum or multi-platinum.

"We all feel so lucky to be in business with Dolly. We're so excited about working with her to infuse these movies with her incredible work ethic and that genuine hopefulness and positive outlook that has been her trademark for years. And you can bet there will be a lot of her music in them too," NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke said.
