The Denver Broncos are in a strange spot at the moment. After again proving to be one of the best teams in the NFL and winning 12 games in the regular season, but failing miserably in their postseason pursuit of a Super Bowl berth, they made the unexpected, franchise-shifting decision to part ways with head coach John Fox.

Team president John Elway is looking to pick up the pieces and start anew, but time is drawing short as prime head coaching candidates continue to be snatched up elsewhere and the team's own in-house candidate, offensive coordinator Adam Gase, seems to be only a secondary option based on Elway's current operating procedure.

Elway will now look to pry Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator, Gary Kubiak, from his current team despite Kubiak's pronouncement at the offset of the offseason that he had no interest in another head coaching position.

"This is a special organization and we, like [head coach John Harbaugh] says, are building something great. I want to be a part of that and contribute in whatever ways I can," Kubiak said in a statement released by the Ravens.

Still, Elway and the Broncos submitted a request to interview Kubiak late Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Kubiak and Ravens head coach, John Harbaugh, plan to have a conversation Thursday morning to discuss the potential move, Albert Breer of NFL Network reported.

"Out of respect, he's told me he's planning on being here," Harbaugh said Monday, according to Jeff Zrebiec of The Baltimore Sun. "Denver hasn't reached out in any way at this time. That isn't to say it couldn't change at some point in time. If that happens, we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

"But I don't want to put anybody on the spot like that. I want to be respectful. I'm planning on Gary being back. If that changes, we'll deal with it if it comes up. But I don't anticipate that at this time."

While Kubiak has significant ties to Denver - he spent nine years with the organization as a player and 11 as an assistant coach and remains very close to Elway - Ian Rapoport of NFL.com is hearing from Baltimore officials that Kubiak will most likely stay with the Ravens.

But were Kubiak to change his mind and decide he wants the job, the Ravens would not keep him from making the jump.
