"Gone Girl" director David Fincher, star Ben Affleck and writer Gillian Flynn are reuniting to put a modern spin on an Alfred Hitchcock classic.

The trio plan to tackle the 1951 film "Strangers on a Train," currently under the working title "Strangers," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Affleck would play the role of Guy Haines, the pro tennis star originally portrayed by Farley Granger.

Haines meets a psychotic socialite and the two discuss the hypothetical of how two strangers get away with murder. The tennis pro has little idea that the psychopath has every intention of putting their plan into action.

Granger starred alongside Robert Walker and Ruth Roman in the adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's novel.

Fincher and Flynn also have started work on an HBO drama called "Utopia." Their film "Gone Girl" received four Golden Globe nominations including Best Director and Best Screenplay, and has grossed more than $365.3 million.

Affleck will next star as Batman in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," opening in theaters on March 25, 2016. He's also directing, writing and starring in the film "Live by Night," set in the Prohibition Era, and will star in the movie, "The Accountant."
