Police in Florida arrested George Zimmerman Friday for aggravated assault and domestic violence with a weapon in his Lake Mary, Florida, home.

Zimmerman, 31, had been acquitted of second-degree murder charges in 2013 in the shooting death of the unarmed black teenager, Trayvon Martin, according to USA Today.

The Lake Mary Police Department booked Zimmerman at 10:10 p.m. Friday at the John E. Polk Correctional Facility for aggravated assault and domestic violence against his girlfriend, Seminole County booking documents said.

NBC News reported that a Saturday morning court granted Zimmerman a $5,000 bond, which he posted.

He was released around noon and ordered to have no contact with the woman or travel to Volusia County where she lives.

Don West, Zimmerman's attorney, said the woman is his girlfriend and the incident in question involved Zimmerman allegedly throwing a bottle of wine at her.

USA Today reported that Judge John Galluzzo said Zimmerman has been ordered to surrender all firearms even though he did not use one in this case.

Galluzzo also said he asked Zimmerman to pack up his girlfriend's belongings and give them to his lawyer.

The court scheduled Zimmerman to appear in court Feb. 17.

Zimmerman has encountered the Lake Mary police several other times since his acquittal in 2013.

In September 2013, Zimmerman's estranged wife, Shellie Zimmerman, called the police claiming that her husband punched her father and threatened her with a gun. She refused to press charges.

In November 2013, police arrested Zimmerman for domestic abuse against his girlfriend, Samantha Scheibe, who later claimed investigators misinterpreted her statements and refused to press charges.

In September 2014, police arrested Zimmerman for road rage.

According to NBC News, Zimmerman filed a defamation lawsuit against NBC News, but a judge dismissed the claim last summer. Zimmerman has appealed the judge's decision.
