Samsung held a press event in London on Thursday where they unveiled several new devices in their Windows 8 powered Ativ lineup.

Ativ played a central role in Samsung's press event where it unveiled laptops, tablets, all-in-ones and smartphones. Many believe the company is trying to put a lot of resources into the Ativ line like they did with the Galaxy line, which ended up becoming one of the most popular smartphones on the market.

Microsoft could use such a push as their Windows 8 operating system is not doing very well commercially as people are unfamiliar and unforgiving of the new tablet friendly tile interface.

The company announced the Ativ Q, a convertible device, which  allows the user to changed between a tablet and a laptop with just a flip of a hinge. Perhaps the most impressive feature of this device is its ability to run both Windows 8 and Android Jelly Bean (the newest version of Android) at the same time. Users can switch between the two operating systems and even pin Android applications to the Windows 8 start screen.

According to CNET, "The device runs on a 13.3-inch display with an intensely rich 3,200 by 1,800 pixel resolution and 275 pixels per inch, which the company boasts is the world's highest resolution. The qHD display is optimized for us in bright sunlight conditions. It also includes a 16-megapixel CMOS sensor for the camera and an Intel i5 Haswell processor. It's 13.9 millimeters thick and 1.29 kilograms. It has 4 gigabytes of memory and a 128GB solid-state drive for storage. It has two USB ports, an HDMI port, and a slot for a microSD card."

Samsung also too the opportunity to unveil the Ativ Tab 3, a slate Windows 8 powered device. The company says the tablet will be the world's thinnest Windows 8 tablet. Like the Galaxy Note line, both new tablets come with an S-pen stylus, which works on programs like Evernote and Office. The Tab 3 has a 10.1-inch display, uses an Intel Atom processor, has 2GB of memory, 64GB of storage and comes bundled with Microsoft Office 2013.
