Back in October, a reddit user posted a theory that blew many a mind in the "Gotham" fandom: Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) was not actually Batman's foe, Penguin, but the Joker himself.

Now, given Cobblepot's black-and-white aesthetic and newfound enthusiasm for his nickname, this theory seems highly unlikely. But it still gained a lot of traction, with multiple outlets picking up the reddit thread and giving it some life. According to a report at The Huffington Post (via MTV), Taylor was asked: could Oswald Cobblepot really be Batman's most fearsome nemesis in disguise?

"I find it incredibly unlikely, but at the same time, I have no idea what could happen," Taylor said. "I get the scripts and I'll read something, and I will be just as shocked as everyone else is when they see it happen onscreen."

Cobblepot becoming the Joker probably won't be happening onscreen, but Taylor read the fan theory...and came away most impressed.

"I read it, and I was like, 'Huh,' " he explained. "I was like, 'Nah.' But then I was so impressed at the detail that this person went into... the guy who formulated this theory. I was just amazed at the amount of attention that people are paying to the show. I mean, he was looking at the colors of my vest and my suit, and extrapolating off of that."

Yup. That's reddit for you, Penguin. So it looks like Taylor won't be become the Joker anytime soon, but when the Clown Prince of Crime does show up, the Penguin will be there to greet him with open arms.

"The more rich characters from the Batman world that we can introduce, I think it's just better for the show. I'm just so excited to see what happens, just like everybody else."
