Remember when everyone started noticing their super slim iPhone 6 would curve to the shape of their posterior from keeping the phone in their pockets when they sat? (Apple claimed that only happened to nine people, but photos on Twitter told a different story). That's all ancient history! Hey, what's a bent phone among friends? And your friend Apple has just been granted a patent to manufacture a phone that bends - on purpose - according to The Telegraph.

On Tuesday, Apple was granted a patent by The United States Patent and Trademark Office to create "a flexible electronic device" which could include "a flexible display, a flexible housing and one or more flexible internal components."

The patent had originally been filed in 2011, according to The Telegraph.

Building flexibility into the phone could make it even more impact resistant. The device could bend to absorb the shock of a fall, or it could be used as a trigger for an automatic shutoff, according to the patent.

A company in California was approved for a like patent in October for flexible displays, The Telegraph reported.

At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Apple's rival, LG, just revealed the LG G Flex2, the company's second curved smartphone. The company claims the phone is comprised of "self-healing" plastic that can self-repair minor scratches.
