The NFL playoffs may be well underway, but that isn't drawing any attention away from the New York Jets' search for a new head coach. The Jets were the first team to make a move last week, officially parting ways with Rex Ryan and general manager John Idzik. Since then, a few names have cropped up as preferred targets of New York.

The first name on that list is Doug Marrone. Marrone opted out of his contract with the Buffalo Bills last week and has since interviewed with the Jets. While rumors have swirled that he was the early front-runner, CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora tweeted Monday morning that "I hear Doug Marrone's interview with them did not go well. Dan Quinn well positioned now."

Marrone went 15-17 in two seasons with the Bills. However, his 9-7 season with Buffalo this past year is especially impressive considering the team started veteran journeyman Kyle Orton at quarterback for 12 games. Marrone coached the Bills' defense to a No. 4 overall ranking this season.

If La Canfora's report is accurate and Marrone's interview with the Jets did not go well, then Quinn, the defensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks, will get a long look.

Quinn already met with the Jets brass on Friday but will be unable to sign any deal until after Seattle is finished with its post-season run. The Seahakws have finished the past two regular seasons as the No. 1 ranked defense under Quinn. Considering that New York stuck with the defensive-minded Ryan for six seasons, it's not a surprise that the organization values Quinn so highly.

The Jets have not made the post-season since 2010. While owner Woody Johnson is sure to be patient with whomever he ultimately hires, positive results will be expected quickly. Can Marrone or Quinn deliver?
