According to a report at VGChartz, Sony has some more good sales news to crow about. It seems the PlayStation 4 has had a strong holiday season, consistently outselling its rivals, the Xbox One and Wii U every week, and the system has hit a new sales milestone for the fourth straight week.

The PS4 has now sold more than 18 million units worldwide, with total sales topping out at 18.25 million units. The milestone was achieved on the week ending December 20, 2014, where the system sold 898,665 units.

The PlayStation 4 for that week alone sold nearly as much as the Xbox One and Wii U combined. The PS4 was just 60,581 units away from outselling its rivals combined. Overall, the Sony system is currently 962,396 units away from equaling the combined sales of both the Xbox One and Wii U.

In all honesty, this doesn't surprise me in the least because, currently, the PS4 is the best platform for pure gaming. It isn't selling this well because it's the cheapest system or because it has any "gimmicks" attached; it's hooked the core gamers and that's key. It's what the Xbox 360 did in the last generation.

It's been said by people wiser than myself that if you don't learn from your mistakes then you will be doomed to repeat them. Sony obviously learned from their mistakes with the PS3, and it is doing its level best not to duplicate those missteps with this current generation of hardware.
