The curtain fell early on Saturday matinee performances of "Les Miserables" and "The Curious Incident of Dog in the Night" when a overheated transformer caused an evacuation of the two theaters on London's West End.

More than 1,000 people, including the audience and cast members, streamed into the streets and the performances were cancelled due to the power outage, according to BBC News. The transformer serviced both the Queen's and Gielgud theaters on Shaftesbury Avenue.

The power went out around 3 p.m. local time, a spokeswoman for UK Power Network told the BBC.

"UK Power Networks engineers rerouted power supplies to all but one customer within a couple of minutes and the final supply was restored as quickly as possible by 3.51pm," the spokeswoman said. "We apologise to customers, including theatre-goers, for the inconvenience caused."

A BBC correspondent in attendance at the "Les Miserables" show tweeted that the music stopped about 25 minutes into the show, according to BBC News. The show's cast took the evacuation in stride and even had a little fun on its Twitter page.
