It would appear that the X-Wing wasn't the only "Star Wars" spacecraft getting a makeover in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." Some concept art has surfaced featuring a redesign of a TIE Fighter, and as you can see above, it looks pretty damn cool. Seeing production art like this is always intriguing because it proves how little we truly know about what J.J. Abrams has planned for the film.

At first blush, this seems like a much bigger TIE Fighter than what we were used to seeing in the original three films, and it includes a couple additional engines on the wings. There are a pair of Imperial Guards standing outside of th ship, and the only time I recall seeing the red-cloaked Imperial Guards in the films is when the Emperor was milling about...being evil and the like. Does that mean the Empire has a new Emperor? Who is it that has succeeded Palpatine? Is Palpatine somehow still alive? It's anyone's guess at this point.

There is also the matter of who would be piloting this TIE Fighter. My first guess would be Gwendoline Christie's Stormtrooper Commander, which you can read up on here. There's also the possibility that the ship belongs to the villainous character Kylo Ren. All will be revealed later this year when the movie is released on Dec. 18. Thanks to Indie Revolver for the heads up.
