Tesla plans on making charging electric cars much easier, with CEO Elon Musk tweeting Wednesday that a new automatic charging system for the Model S is in development.

Musk said the charger will automatically extend from a wall and connect to a Model S on its own, and compared it to a "solid metal snake," according to The Verge. Whether or not the system will be made available at a charging station or at home, or possibly both, has yet to be revealed.

The idea of such a system was first brought up by Musk at P85D launch in October, which Tesla used as an opportunity to talk about the autonomous features it has added to the Model S. Among these features was an automatic charger port door designed to give the car the ability to drop its driver off then automatically park itself in a garage.

However, this new charging system is designed to be able to work with cars that don't have automatic doors, The Verge reported.

This "solid metal snake" will be able to work with current Model S vehicles, as well as cars to be released in the future, Engadget reported.

While Musk said at the P85D event that Tesla was interested in producing something similar to the charger, the project is a definite plan as Musk said it is "for realz."
