Foxconn, considered to be the best contract manufacturer on the planet, is reportedly mulling the possibility of opening manufacturing plants in the United States.

According to a story first published in Digitimes, Foxconn is in the process of conducting evaluations in cities such as Detroit and Los Angeles to set up factories that would focus on LCD TV production.

CNET later reported Foxconn was officially denying any such move.

"The company already has multiple facilities based in the U.S." the report quoted an unnamed Foxconn spokesperson. "There are no current plans to expand our operations there at this time."

The Taiwanese firm currently has a factory in Santa Clara.

Sourcing market watchers, the Digitime report said that the rumored U.S. plants will focus on LCD TV production as it is highly automated and easier.

Foxconn chairman Terry Gou recently noted that his company is not able to meet the huge demand for Apple's new iPhone 5 due to design-related production difficulties.

"It's not easy to make the iPhones. We are falling short of meeting the huge demand," he said.

Gou said the company is considering a training program for U.S.-based engineers who it would bring to Taiwan or China to take part in the processes of product design and manufacturing.

He said the company is also in discussion with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) over such a program.
