A few months back, it was reported that a new Pee-Wee Herman movie was happening. While rumors have been swirling for some time that this movie would indeed be happening, this appears to be the wake-up call that it is actually a real thing and will be hitting screens at some point in our lifetime. And, like many of our favorite resurrected pieces of intellectual property, it will be shown exclusively on Netflix.

That's right, the new Pee-Wee Herman movie will be produced for, and stream on, Netflix. This is an excellent idea considering there's no way to really assure a giant theatrical turnout for the beloved character, despite a core base that adores Pee-Wee's real life alter ego Paul Reubens. And this way they get (in all likelihood) a greater degree of creative control with the burden of a giant release lifted from their shoulders.

As per ComicBook.com (via The Wrap), the project is no longer at Universal, and will now forge ahead under the Netflix standard. Judd Apatow is still producing, but no director has been announced at this time and plot details are still under wraps as well, but it has been confirmed that Reubens wrote the film alongside Paul Rust. Apparently the director is in place though; they're just not announcing him or her quite yet. And they'd probably have to be onboard at this point, especially if there's any truth to the statement (floated out there by Reubens himself) that the project could start shooting as early as this coming February.

Heck, as long as this new flick is more "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure" rather than "Big Top Pee-Wee," I'm totally onboard. Love me some Pee-Wee. And Chairy. And Globie. And Cowboy Curtis. Definitely Cowboy Curtis.
