Microsoft will reveal the oft-whispered about Xbox virtual reality headset device during the company's E3 2015 briefing next summer, according to a Digitimes report that cites "upstream supply chain" sources. The summer tradeshow is scheduled for June 16-18, 2015.

The site's sources went on to say that development on the Xbox VR headset, which will presumably work with the Xbox One, will be handled by the same team that runs Microsoft's Surface tablet line. What the name for the device will ultimately be was not mentioned.

Other reports from both VRFocus and Techradar state that several video game studios have Xbox One VR development kits in their possession. None of the studios were named, unfortunately.

Microsoft's Xbox VR headset is a different animal from its Google Glass-like "Fortazela" project, which first leaked in June 2012. Digitimes adds that development on this project is ongoing, though no further details about its features or functionality were reported.

Microsoft has been open in saying that virtual reality is something the company has been experimenting with for a long time now. But, when reached for comment on these VR rumors by Gamespot, a company spokesperson said, "We have nothing to share concerning these reports."

Sony revealed its own VR device, Project Morpheus, during GDC in March 2014, though the company hasn't said a word as to when it plans to launch the device or what it its price point will be. And, of course, the Facebook-owned Oculus Rift VR headset is still very much in development for PC.
