An unaware woman was frightened out of her mind when a scorpion fell out of a dress while she was trying it on inside a dressing room at a Hayward JC Penney store over the weekend, CBS News reported.

Sandra Hernandez, of Hayward, had been shopping at a JC Penney store when she discovered that an unwelcome companion had been hanging onto a dress that she had carried around for about 30 minutes around the store on Sunday.

Hernandez had just stepped inside one of the fitting rooms in Southland Mall and was pulling on the dress over her head when she spotted the venomous creature fling into the air and land next to her feet.

"When I pulled the skirt down I gave it a shake, and when I gave it a shake the scorpion kind of - what I thought was string - opened up and went down to the floor," Hernandez, who is a former JC Penney employee, told KPIX 5. "I was shocked I looked down, I said oh my God, oh my God, oh my God."

Immediately attempting to move away from the three-inch long brown-yellow scorpion, Hernandez called for help. A store employee was alerted by her screams.

"It was scary," Hernandez recalled.

Eventually, a store manager came in and tried to capture the scorpion in a bag, but it was able to slip away into a crevice.

After hours of searching for the deadly insect, workers were unable to find it, according to CBS News. The incident was reported by Hernandez to the corporate office.

Meanwhile, the company said they were trying to track down where the garment had originated from.
