Rapper Bobby Shmurda was arrested early Wednesday morning outside of a New York City recording studio, Billboard magazine reports. His arrest was in connection to a lengthy police investigation related to his possible involvement in narcotics trafficking and shootings.

The arrest was confirmed by Kati Cornell, the director of public information for New York City's special narcotics prosecutor. According to Billboard, Cornell said that Shmurda and several members of the Brooklyn gang GS9 were arrested as they sat inside a car.

TMZ reports that Shmurda was under police surveillance for a while before they arrested him. The 20-year-old rapper's charges are sealed and won't be revealed until the indictment is opened on Thursday in a Manhattan Supreme Court.

The NYPD plans to release the information and discuss the case during a press conference that afternoon.

This is the third time Shmurda has been in trouble with the law in recent months. He was arrested in October for smoking marijuana with two friends while double parked in Brooklyn and was arrested last June for possessing a gun.
