They may have been around for a while, but these ants weren't discovered until the year 2000 in the Amazon of Brazil.

5.       Chinese Giant Salamander

Dates back: 170 million years

The Chinese great salamander is the largest amphibian on Earth, reaching a length of 6 feet. The Chinese consider the salamander a delicacy and it is often used in traditional medicine.

6.       Echidna

Dates back: 19 to 48 million years

7.       Coelacanth

Dates back 170 million years

The coelacanth was considered extinct before 1938. This species has characteristics of reptiles, mammals and lungfish.

8.       Nautilus

Dates back: 500 million years

The nautilus has seen three mass extinctions and survived, but it is still teetering on the edge of extinction.

9.       Jellyfish

Dates back: 700 million years

They may be a nuisance at the beach, but they have earned their right to stay by surviving 700 million years.

10.   Solenodon

Dates back: 76 million years

It's nocturnal and venomous and has been around for 76 million long years.
