In the latest smartphone news, Samsung is rumored to announce the next flagship phone in its Galaxy S series at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January 2015.

Korean online publication Chosun Biz reported Monday that the phone, called the "Galaxy S6," may debut alongside a curved screen variant that has a dual-edge display like the Galaxy Note 4 Edge, according to the International Business Times.

The two models of the Galaxy S6 are expected to make an early appearance as a way for the South Korean tech giant to get ahead of competitors after experiencing poor smartphone sales this year. Other sources claim different launch dates for the device, such as SamMobile, which said the phone is more likely to be unveiled sometime in late February or early March.

Rumored features of the new phone include an Exynos7420 octa-core processor, 5.5-inch QHD display with 1440 x 2560 pixels, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, GSMArena.com reported.

Analysts predict that Samsung will sell close to 45 million units of the Galaxy S6, with 10 million of these units being the "Galaxy S6 Edge."

Additional features expected for the new phone include a 5-megapixel camera on the front and a 20-megapixel camera on the back, the International Business Times reported.

The CES 2015 will take place from Jan. 6 to Jan. 9 in Las Vegas, Nevada, so smartphone fans will have to wait for about a month to see if the Samsung Galaxy S6 rumors are true.
