Josh Sweat, a five-star recruit and the fifth-ranked prospect in the ESPN 300, has committed to Florida State University. Sweat announced his decision earlier today in a ceremony at Oscar Frommel Smith high in Chesapeake, Virginia.

Sweat was formerly the top-ranked prospect in the country, but lost his No. 1 spot to defensive tackle Terry Beckner Jr. after he dislocated his knee and tore his ACL in a game on Sept. 19. Sweat is the 10th prospect ranked in the ESPN 300 to commit to FSU, giving the school the No. 2-ranked class in 2015.

The Seminoles won out over other big football schools such as Virginia Tech, Georgia, Ohio State, Oregon and more. Before his injury, Sweat recorded 25 tackles, 11 tackles for a loss, eight sacks and eight receptions for 210 yards and four touchdowns in only two-plus games this year.

The 6-foot-5, 239-pound Sweat is rehabbing his injured knee in New York. Giants team physician Russell Warren performed the surgery on him. Upon his graduation this month, Sweat plans to enroll at FSU in January.

Sweat's national profile rose even further at this summer's The Opening football camp at Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. The defensive end recorded a 4.46 40-yard dash time, 4.00 pro agility shuttle and a 38.3-inch vertical jump; stellar numbers across the board. He is the second five-star prospect to pledge for the Seminoles, joining No. 10 overall George Campbell.

Now to editorialize a bit, I saw Sweat play in high school. He looked like a grown man playing in Pee Wee. This kid is a destructive defensive force with an explosive first step. Should his rehab go smoothly, the Seminoles just notched themselves a top pass rusher for the next three years. You won't have any trouble remembering Sweat's name because he is going to start popping up in highlights as soon as he hits the field for FSU.
