Rugby coach Glenn Stroud wasn't able to make a quiet getaway from this car crash.

Dressed as pop icon Rihanna, Stroud - who was driving the vehicle when the crash occurred - tried to run off on Nov. 9, Independent Online reported.

The 43-year-old coach had been knocking back drinks at a Stars In Their Eyes costume party at a rugby club. He donned a bright-red curly wig, a purple dress and make-up.

Police were told that the school sports team wanted to drive the man home while still dressed in his costume. But instead, he was spotted swerving on the road in his Ford Ka before hitting an oncoming vehicle. No one was injured in the collision, but fearing being stopped by police dressed in drag, he decided to flee the scene.

The other car involved in the crash began following Stroud, and the police quickly caught him while he was still in the Rihanna costume.

"One of the reasons Stroud didn't stop immediately was because of what he was wearing," Stroud's defense lawyer Ian George said, according to the Daily Mail.

But Judge Richard Williams said Stroud intended to avoid arrest.

"This was a calculated attempt to avoid detection. You failed to stop after a road traffic accident, the offense of failing to stop is a serious aggravating factor," Williams said.

Stroud was banned from driving for 21 months after admitting to driving under the influence. He was over twice the legal limit when he got into the accident.
