A driver struck a man in a McDonald's drive-thru lane in Queens, then backed up over him to retrieve a food order before driving away, witnesses said, according to the New York Daily News.

The incident happened early Saturday morning at the McDonald's on Merrick Boulevard near 244th Street in Laurelton, the Daily News reported.

The 48-year-old victim was left in critical condition with severe injuries after being rushed to Jamaica Hospital, according to the Daily News. The workers did not get a look at the car or license plate.

"The car just backed up and drove around him and picked up his food," said 18-year-old night manager Jonathan Brown, according to the Daily News.

Witnesses say the victim appeared to be intoxicated before falling and being run over, the Daily News reported. The NYPD is still searching for the driver and checking surveillance video.

"The guy, I think he was drunk, was in the drive-thru leaning on a car randomly," said Brown, according to the Daily News.

"Then he fell and I thought he was dead so I went to call the cops. Thirty seconds later a car came and just hit him," Brown added.

"It's ridiculous to have to see that," Brown said, according to the Daily News. "I'm traumatized. He ran over his head and the guy was trying to get up with the car still on top of him!"
