A majority of Americans were holding their breath Monday, anxiously waiting for a St. Louis County grand jury to deliver its decision in the Michael Brown case. The unarmed teen was shot at least six times on Aug. 9 by 28-year-old Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson. Brown died from his injuries before he even made it to the hospital.

On Monday evening (Nov. 24), the grand jury declined to indict Wilson, stating that it found no probable cause.

"They determined that no probable cause exists to file any charge against Officer Wilson," St. Louis County Prosecutor Bob McCulloch told reporters in Clayton, Mo., a suburb of St. Louis where the grand jury met.

According to the New York Times, the heartbroken family released a statement through their attorneys and said they were "profoundly disappointed" by the decision.

"While we understand that many others share our pain, we ask that you channel your frustration in ways that will make a positive change," the statement read.
