Oscar Isaac has been cast as main heavy in Bryan Singer's upcoming "X-Men: Apocalypse."

Variety is reporting that the "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and "Inside Llewyn Davis" thespian will play Apocalypse in the sequel to "X-Men: Days of Future Past." The villainous character was briefly shown in the ending-credits scene for that film.

Singer will helm the film, which will mark his fourth go-round in the director's chair for an X-Men movie. Simon Kinberg is writing the script, returning from "Days of Future Past" with Singer.

"'Apocalypse' will have more of the mass destruction that 'X-Men' films, to date, have not relied upon," Singer was quoted as saying. "There's definitely now a character and a story that allow room for that kind of spectacle."

Singer also insinuated that "Apocalypse," set in the 1980s, could feature younger versions of familiar characters.

Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and James McAvoy are all expected to return for "X-Men: Apocalypse"...and don't be shocked if Hugh Jackman shows up as Wolverine as well.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" is slated to be released by 20th Century Fox on May 27, 2016.
