When games are delayed they typically fall off of the collective radars of most people. "Batman: Arkham Knight" was once such title...but now it is back with a vengeance thanks to this all-new gameplay trailer, and it seems that Rocksteady Studios added a further layer of polish onto the upcoming sequel.

This trailer showcases the brute strength of the Batmobile along with the expansive scope of the in-game world; the footage entails a mission that sees The Caped Crusader gain access to an Ace Chemicals lab while he pummels a few goons in the process.

Taking place a full year after the events of its predecessor "Arkham City," Rocksteady has built the upcoming sequel so that players will be introduced to a Batman at the very peak of his abilities...and he'll need them. When a multitude of villains descend on Gotham City, including the likes of Harley Quinn, Two Face and Scarecrow, Batman must confront some of the worst villains in his gallery of rogues, which means that "Arkham Knight" is certainly shaping up to be a suitable finale for what is, arguably, one of the best action video game series of the past several years.

Speaking of which, this is the first entry in Rocksteady's series that will give players full rein of the Batmobile, and the ability to tear down walls and take down enemies will be at your disposal. In fact, "Batman: Arkham Knight" will also herald a host of new gameplay mechanics, including the "Fear Takedown" maneuver that can be glimpsed in the trailer below.

This video is the first instalment in a three-part series, with the next chapter due to arrive soon before the conclusive clip drops during the PlayStation Experience event at the beginning of December. Thanks to Polygon for the heads up.

"Batman: Arkham Knight" will hit PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on June 2, 2015.
