A political cartoon taking a stab at President Barack Obama's immigration ruling was yanked by Indystar.com after being deemed racist by many readers and social media users, Gawker reported.

The cartoon, drawn by artist Gary Varvel, depicts an immigrant family interloping on a white family's Thanksgiving dinner, with text saying "thanks to the president's immigration order, we'll be having extra guests this Thanksgiving."

Obama's decision to temporarily block deporting millions of immigrants living under the radar in the United States was the inspiration for the cartoon. Executive Editor of Indystar Jeff Taylor said he was uncomfortable with the cartoon when he saw it after it was posted.

"We initially decided to leave the cartoon posted to allow readers to comment and because material can never truly be eliminated once it is circulating on the web," Taylor said "But we are removing the cartoon from the opinion section of our website, as well as an earlier version posted on Facebook that showed one character with a mustache."

Taylor added that this is not an issue over Varvel's ability to express his opinions, but rather the depiction was inappropriate and could have been done in other ways.

"He intended to illustrate the view of many conservatives and others that the president's order will encourage more people to pour into the country illegally," Taylor said.
