Channing Tatum has bared his body and soul in front of the cameras. His next project will take him behind the camera to co-direct an adaptation of Matthew Quick's novel "Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock."

The "22 Jump Street" star and Reid Carolin will co-direct the film about a lonely high school kid who plans to kill his former best friend and then commit suicide on his 18th birthday, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Tatum may also star as the observant teacher who interferes with his student's deadly plan.

Tatum and Carolin plan to co-direct the crime thriller "The Son," based on the Jo Nesbo novel, but it has no studio backing at the moment.

"The Spectacular Now" screenwriter James Ponsoldt wrote an early draft for "Leonard Peacock." Tatum's production will hire a new writer for their adaptation.

David O. Russell adapted Quick's 2009 novel "The Silver Linings Playbook" in 2012. Screenwriter Mike White will adapt his upcoming book "Love May Fail" with Sam Raimi attached to direct.

Tatum currently stars in the award-bait film "The Foxcatcher" with Steve Carell and Mark Ruffalo. He recently wrapped shooting on "Magic Mike XXL," the sequel to the 2012 male strippers film. The movie premieres on July 1, 2015.
