You can have a Kickstarter campaign to start a girl band, make your movie or subsidize your invention. You can even hold a Kickstarter campaign to fund your moon mission.

Lunar Missions Ltd. has taken to crowdfunding to sponsor the next decade of preparation for its Lunar One mission to the moon. The mission "will land on the moon's unexplored South Pole, drill at least 10 times deeper than any lunar space probe has before, analyze lunar samples and beam the results back to Earth," according to Smithsonian Magazine.

The perks of being a donor start at the $5 level, but with a pledge of $100 or more, Lunar Missions will "reserve your place in space" with a "digital memory box" - essentially, your own time capsule memory stick.

"Anyone from around the world can get involved for as little as a few pounds," David Iron, the founder of Lunar Missions Ltd. and the nonprofit Lunar Missions Trust, said in a statement, according to NBC News. "Lunar Mission One will make a huge contribution to our understanding of the origins of our planet and the moon, and will inspire a generation to learn more about space, science and engineering - in the same way that my generation was inspired by the Apollo moon landings."

The Kickstarter campaign reached almost half its goal in the first day.
