Jamie Horowitz, a former ESPN executive hired 10 weeks ago to supervise the "Today" show, has been fired as of Monday after what coworkers said was continuous conflicts with staff members at NBC, the New York Times reported.

Deborah Turness, president of NBC News, said that she and Horowitz "have come to the conclusion that this is not the right fit."

The end of his tenure was not called a termination or firing, but was described as something the two decided on mutually. But it's said that Turness, and her NBC New superior, Patricia Fili-Krushel, decided they wanted to let Horowitz go.

After working as an ESPN executive, Horowitz was hired to help "Today" become the top morning show again after ABC's "Good Morning America" edged them out for that spot. Horowitz is said to have "ran afoul of internal politics and clashed with established executives and talent at the show - who did not like his ideas," the Huffington Post reported.

It had been expected that he would make changes, even to main cast members. Turness called Horowitz a talented executive in her memo.

"The role of General Manager remains an important one, and will be filled in due course. In the interim, I will work closely with both Don Nash and Jen Brown to oversee TODAY," she wrote

He was in charge of creating new programs for ESPN and continued to monitor his previous developments even after he left, including the "Olbermann" show and "First Take."
