Wendy Williams addressed the backlash from her executive-produced “Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B” by stating everyone has their own opinion.

Williams told her daytime talk show crowd on Monday many people tuned in to see the Aaliyah movie. The biggest problems fans were complaining about were the casting, the shallow plot lines, but most important of all, why they made the film without any input from the late Aaliyah’s loved ones.

Aaliyah’s family has openly been against Lifetime releasing a film based on her life. The family has expressed wanting to give her story a much bigger budget to work with and an international theater release.

Aaliyah’s family refused to allow Lifetime to use her music in hopes the network would back down, but Williams picked up the project as the executive producer.

Some fans tuned in to Williams’ show expecting an apology or an explanation as to why the production failed to capture the magic of Aaliyah. However, Williams skated over the topic and did not address the backlash.

“I see my Aaliyah movie broke the Internet this weekend! Errbody got an opinion. Well, I must tell you, whether you loved or hate, you watched. It was the second-highest rated movie on all of cable this year so far,” Williams said before moving on to the next Hot Topic.

One of Aaliyah’s closest friends, music producer Timbaland, took to his Instagram account to share his feelings on the biopic. Timbaland posted several memes making fun of the production as well as videos sharing his hatred for the film.

Zendaya Coleman, who was originally cast to play Aaliyah in the film, took to her Twitter to ask her fans to pray for the late r&b singer’s family.
