Bubble gum flavored ... broccoli? At McDonald's?

McDonald's CEO Don Thompson answered questions at an event on Thursday night where someone asked him how the chain was working to help kids eat better, according to Business Insider.

In addition to more expected responses, like the chain's redesign of milk jugs and French fry sizes, Thompson said McDonald's tweaked broccoli to make it taste like bubble gum.

Why hasn't the candied vegetable concoction been added to the menus?

"It wasn't all that," he said, according to the Consumerist. Kids who tried it in test runs were confused by the taste.

But Thomas was adamant that McDonald's sells healthy options, and said the restaurant sells more salads than any other American restaurant chain.

By the same token, the CEO said it's the parents' responsibility to make proper food choices for their kids.

"You can't ask a business to do things that you as a parent won't do yourself," he said.

Around the world, McDonald's has some other very different offerings, but none as strange as bubble gum broccoli: the McLobster, brie nuggets, McQueso and the bacon potato pie, are just be some of the offerings, according to Devine Caroline.

Some of McDonald's other failed items besides the broccoli include McPizza, McSpaghetti, the PR catastrophe that was McAfrika and the McHotDog, according to Business Insider.
