“Breaking Bad” director Michelle MacLaren may be close to signing a deal to direct Warner Bros.’ “Wonder Woman” movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, MacLaren is the studio’s first choice to direct Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot’s solo film. The studio was has reportedly been looking to hire a female director for the “Wonder Woman” film. However, that isn’t to say Warner Bros. isn’t looking at male directors as well.

“MacLaren became a favorite back in August, taking several meetings. Things cooled over the autumn as the studio widened its search,” THR reports. “Sources say that MacLaren's name surfaced again in the last week as a front-runner, even as studio insiders say that Warners is not married to the idea of a female director.”

Warner Bros. has also allegedly met with directors Jennifer Kent and Lesli Linka Glatter to possibly helm the project. One director who definitely isn’t interested in the job is “Punisher: War Zone” director Lexi Alexander.

Alexander recently told Fast Company she has hasn’t been approached for the project but wouldn’t consider taking it because of the amount of pressure she would be under to make the movie a box office hit.

“Imagine the weight on my shoulders,” she said. “How many male superhero movies fail? So now, we finally get Wonder Woman with a female director, imagine if it fails.  And you have no control over marketing, over budget. So without any control, you carry the f**king weight of gender equality for both characters and women directors. No way.”

The “Wonder Woman” movie is scheduled to hit theaters on June 23, 2017.
