Samsung is looking for an aggressive comeback with its revamped smartphone series, as the new leaked specs point towards a significant upgrade to Galaxy Grand 3.

Samsung, the world's largest smartphone vendor, failed to gain as much traction for flagships as its rival Apple. But the Korean tech giant isn't letting go of its dominance without a fight. In a newly leaked specs document on GFX Bench results, a new device SM-G7200 is stepping up its game with a major overhaul. Expected as the successor in the Grand series, the Grand 3 is a significant upgrade compared to its predecessor.

According to the leaked specs on GFX Bench, the unannounced Galaxy Grand 3 will sport a slightly bigger 5.5-inch 720p display and will also be powered by a 1.2GHz 64-bit quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon with Adreno 306 graphics and 1.5GB RAM. The most notable upgrade seen in the Grand 3 is the camera, which is likely to sport 12 megapixels on the rear side of the device and 5 megapixels on the front. The Grand 2 model was shipped with 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and 1.9MP front shooter.

Other standard features such as accelerometer, Bluetooth, compass, GPS, proximity sensor and Wi-Fi are included. The specs also confirm that the handset will be shipped with a single SIM card slot and run Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box. Whether it will get an update to Lollipop is a question that remains unanswered as the Grand 2 is unlikely to get the latest Android OS.

The launch details about the Galaxy Grand 3 also remain scanty but it can be expected anywhere within a few weeks or by the end of this year, GSM Arena reported.

The news of the Galaxy Grand 3 comes around the time when there is a lot of hype around Samsung's secretive Project Zero. The so-called project is speculated to be for the development of Galaxy S6, which is being built up from scratch. This is essential if the  tech giant wants to fight the popularity of new phones such as iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. It is speculated that Samsung will pack a 4K display, 4GB RAM and 20-megapixel camera in the S6, SamMobile reported.
