Amazon has introduced a speaker called Echo that you can control with your voice.

This ability is made possible with Echo's built-in voice recognition, which allows users to command the device to do a variety of things like play music, show the weather for the day or add an event to the user's calendar, according to Gizmodo. All you have to do to activate the speaker is say the wake word "Alexa."

The 9-inch-tall Bluetooth speaker comes with a 2-inch tweeter and 2.5-inch woofer, and it can provide 360-degree sound for the entire room.

Echo's product page says that it can hear what its user says thanks to sensors equipped with "beam-forming technology," The Verge reported.

You will be able to play music from Amazon Prime Music, iHeartRadio, Tuneln Plus, as well as from audio apps like Spotify and Pandora. You can also ask the device general questions, and it will provide the answers from Wikipedia.

The e-commerce giant designed Echo as a speaker people will be able to use in their living rooms and to provide an experience not found with other voice assistants like Siri, Google Now and Cortana, The Verge reported.

Amazon said it will begin shipping Echo "in the coming weeks," and it will start with an invite-only basis. Regular customers will have to pay $199 for the high-tech speaker, while Amazon Prime members will be able to buy it for $99 for a limited time.
