Another reason to brag, guys.

We know the human body loves and needs protein for repair, maintenance and telling body chemicals what to do. What part of the body produces the most diverse proteins?

No, not your brain, but you may have been accused of thinking with this area, too.

Actually, we mean your testicles.

The brain hosts 318 unique proteins, but testicles fall just short of 1,000 with 999 unique proteins, according to New Scientist.

The newest version of the Human Protein Atlas (which indexes the proteins produced by the human body) was released this week on proteinatlas.org and it includes this new information.

The atlas' findings, under the leadership of Mathias Uhlén of the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden encompasses 10 years of work in 13 laboratories.

As expected, many of the proteins in the testicles are used for sperm production. "What's going on in the testes is unique, as sperm must survive with half the chromosomes and outside the human body," Uhlén said, according to New Scientist.

Ovaries might have bragging rights too, ladies, but Uhlén has not, nor plans to test that theory, according to New Scientist, since ovum make fetuses.

We'll just have to let the men have this one.
