A Long Island man allegedly beheaded a woman before killing himself by jumping in front of a train, PIX 11 reported.

Witnesses said they saw a beheaded woman, who is said to have been in her 60s, outside of an apartment building in Farmingdale, N.Y., just before 8 p.m. Tuesday. The building was 1,000 feet away from the LIRR station.

Police did not confirm if the woman was beheaded or not. Witnesses told PIX 11 they thought it was a Halloween prank at first.

A man in his 30s was found dead on the nearby Lond Island Railroad tracks, but it was not immediately confirmed if the deaths were related. Neither of their identities have been made public, but police suspect the man was the woman's son, NBC New York reported.

The train was emptied and passengers were asked to board another train bound for a nearby station. They were then bussed to their final destinations, and service along the line resumed on Wednesday morning.

In September, another beheading gained national attention. Police say Alton Nolen, severed the head of 54-year-old coworker Colleen Hufford at an Oklahoma food distribution plant after recently converting to Islam, according to the New York Daily News.
