Americans consume the most calories per person on average than any other country according to a new global survey.

FAOSTAT found that Americans are consuming on average about 3,641 calories per person a day. (The recommended calorie intake for women is 2,000 and 2,500 for men)

Out of the six food groups, Americans are consuming the least fruits and vegetables. Sugars and sweets, which are recommended to be used sparingly, is the top consumed food group in the U.S.

Runner-up to the U.S. is Germany, who consumes an average of 3,539 calories per person a day.

Other countries that made the list of countries consuming the most calories are U.K., India, Somalia and North Korea.

The survey also looked at the world on a global scale, finding that the international average calorie intake is 2,870 with grains being the leading food group.

These countries who are consuming more than the recommended amount of calories per day, could be putting themselves at health risks.

"High calorie intake will cause stress on your body," reports Health Status. "High caloric foods are high in fats and sugars and extraordinary intake of these types of foods increase your risk factors for type 2 diabetes, heart disease and cancers. If you eat a large amount of food you will stress your digestive process which can decrease your length of life as well as your quality of living."
