Austin Davis has come in and performed admirably for the St. Louis Rams this season. A third-stringer during training camp, injuries and ineffectiveness opened the door for him to become the starter. It seems as if his short time at the helm of the St. Louis offense has impressed former MVP Brett Favre.

"Austin can definitely play at this level," Brett Favre, the only Southern Miss quarterback other than Davis to start more than one NFL game, told ESPN's Ed Werder.

"Not to sound off my rocker, but [Davis] - in my mind - can be the next Tom Brady or Kurt Warner. [Brian] Hoyer as well.

"Austin, like those mentioned, just needed a legit opportunity."

Davis' 86 percent completion rate against the Seattle Seahawks last week set a record for accuracy against a defending Super Bowl champion (minimum 20 passes). Davis went 18 of 21 for 152 yards and two touchdowns. He led the Rams on a game winning 80-yard drive in the fourth quarter to upset Seattle 28-26.

"You can't ask for more out of a guy who went from third string to now starting quarterback and playing great ball," defensive end Robert Quinn said Sunday, as quoted by ESPN. "We've got to be consistent week in and week out and prepare for teams and finish games."

Davis, an undrafted free agent in his second season, is completing 66% of his passes this year and has thrown for 1,517 yards, nine touchdowns and four interceptions. While Davis has played well this year, he still has a long way to go before matching the careers of Brady and Warner.

The Rams are scheduled to play the Kansas City Chiefs this Sunday.
