The fifth season of “Game of Thrones” will feature the series first flashback, something showrunners have been openly against in their narrative.

Entertainment Weekly reports the flashback will occur in the first scene of the next season, unless editors decide otherwise. The news came after showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss attended a Q&A panel at a school in Spain, where “Game of Thrones” is currently shooting.

“By making the first season, we set a rule: No prophecies, dreams or flashbacks. We failed the first two and this season the third. So yes, this season will finally have flashbacks,” the showrunnrers said.

There is a possibility the flashback could be related to Cersei Lannister, as her character is expected to go through some major changes after the death of her father.

However, fans of the show can still expect to see graphic violence and sexual themes in season five.

Back in August, The Guardian reported Michael Lombardo, HBO’s president of programming, told Edinburgh Intl. Television Festival crowd the network refuses to censor their television shows as they cater to adult viewers who expect adult content.

“My job is to be in business with responsible creative forces,” Lomardo told the festival crowd. “And if I am doing that I trust their decisions about what is appropriate for the character or not. And I feel we made the right choice with Dan (Weiss) and Dave (Benioff) and they continue to try to be responsible.

“As long as I feel that (violence) isn’t the reason (people) are watching the show, that it isn’t a show trying to attract viewers with sex and violence, I am not going to play police.”
