Starting today, Valve Software's PC gaming service, Steam, will host a free weekend that the company states is the service's biggest yet; 10 PC games in all will be free during the weekend-long promotion, which would total about $240 if purchased at their regular price.

Steam's free weekend kicks off at 10 AM PST this morning, and includes the following titles...which Valve says will also be available for purchase "at tremendous savings." Thanks to VG 24/7 for the heads up on this free weekend of gaming goodness.

Awesomenauts: A 2D battle arena title that pits two three-member teams against each other, attempting to kill the other team, destroy defense turret, and sufficiently damage their base to win the match.

Blade Symphony: This a multiplayer action game developed by Puny Human Games that focuses on swordplay with an in-depth sword fighting system similar to Lucasarts' "Jedi Knight" series of games.

Company of Heroes 2: A real-time strategy (RTS) experience that's set in WWII on the Eastern Front. If you like playing with digital army men then this is the game for you.

Don't Starve: An interesting action-adventure video game with survival and roguelike elements that tasks you with keeping a scientist named Wilson alive. He finds himself in a dark, dreary world and must survive as long as possible. Toward this end, the player must keep Wilson healthy, fed, and mentally stable as he avoids a variety of surreal and supernatural enemies that will try to kill and/or devour him.

Grid 2: A racing game developed and published by Codemasters. The game includes numerous real world locations and cities such as Paris. It also includes motor vehicles spanning four decades to choose from in your driving exploits.

Injustice: Gods Among Us: A very cool fighting game, made by the people who brought us the classic Mortal Kombat, which features a bevy of DC Comics heroes and villains to battle it out with. Good stuff.

Killing Floor: This title is a co-op, first person shooter. Gameplay consists of two game types, in which the player fights waves of zombie-like specimens, with each wave becoming successively more difficult, until it concludes with a battle against a "boss" specimen, called the Patriarch.

Payday 2: Another co-op, first person shooter but this game puts you in the shoes of a thief/gang member, and your reason for being is to carry out heists. There are heists such as bank robbery, a drug trafficking run, and rigging an election. Some of the heists put a large emphasis on stealth, often leading to bonus experience points and money on completion.

Trine 2: is a side-scrolling action platform and puzzle game which allows three players to assume the iconic roles of a wizard, a thief, and a knight in a simultaneous, cooperative mode. The player only controls one character at a time, but this can be switched to the other two at any time.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown: This experience is a military turn-based tactical alien invasion/planetary defense strategy science fiction video game (that's a mouthful, right?). Set in the near future during an alien invasion of Earth, the game puts the player in control of an elite multinational paramilitary organization called XCOM, and is tasked with defending the Earth. The player commands troops in the field in a series of turn-based tactical missions; between missions, the player directs the research and development of new technologies from recovered alien technology and captured prisoners, expands XCOM's base of operations, manages XCOM's finances, and monitors and responds to alien activity.
