A group of comedians, more commonly known as the cast of "Bob's Burgers," spoke with HNGN on the red carpet at PaleyFest in New York City Wednesday night.

"Bob's Burgers" stands apart from most sitcoms because two male actors voice the main female characters in the Belcher family.

Tina Belcher (Dan Mintz), the oldest child, was originally a boy - Daniel. However, when producer Loren Bouchard pitched his idea to FOX, they said he just wasn't cutting it in the animated series.

"I pulled out an old trick that we have done on other shows," Bouchard explained. "It's one of the things that's great about animation."

"So we redrew Daniel into Tina and took some of the dialogue we already recorded," he said. "We even took some of Dan's stand-up and made it part of Tina - and we sent that to the executives and to our credit they immediately saw it was going to work."

Bouchard said the way people perceive a man's voice behind a female face changes the entire way they see the character.

"Your brain thinks of it a different way. It makes your brain fizz - in a good way," Bouchard said.

John Roberts was cast as Linda Belcher from the start.

Roberts told HNGN he gets inspiration for the character from his own mother (he has a single mom). Recently he even got his hands on an old tape of himself when he was 16 years old impersonating his mom as a charcater.

"Someone sent me the high school talent show of the thing that I did," Roberts said. "You know, I haven't seen it in forever. I was like 'oh my god I've been doing this my whole life!'"
